The Sea-gull “Tianjin Panda” mod is aim at producing a more functional watch than the original Sea-gull 1963 Pilot’s Watch. It is achieved by adding luminescence to the applied indices, and an outer ring of tachymetre markers. It has also received a black-white face-lift for a modern look, whilst keeping all the original elements: the Communist Star, “21 Zuan” for 21 jewels in Chinese Mandarin Pinyin, plus the original marking characters of “China Tianjin Watch Factory“.
The watch comes in a 316L stainless steel case in 40mm, with a exhibition case back. Markings on the back notes “Chinese Air Force First Pilot’s Watch Reissue” and the year of “1963” – the year when the original was invented.
Beating in its heart is the original Sea-gull ST1901 hand wound movement and provides a power reserve of 40hrs. The package is finished on either a green military or brown leather strap, both with a sweat-proof leather back.

Folk may not believe this but it is the most accurate watch I own even more so than my Rolex Submariner. It also gets admired more than many other watches I own. All you have to do is put a decent black leather strap on it to make it the perfect watch. I was lucky enough to acquire one already in the UK for £87 and I would not have been unhappy if I had paid £870 it is really that good and no exaggeration.
